Gamecock Public House
Austwick is another attractive, typical dales village, with a small green and a public house (Gamecock Inn), and grey stone cottages surrounded by hills and fields encompassed with dry stone walls. The name derives from Nordic origins meaning Eastern settlement.

Monument
On the approach to the green, which is home to an ancient cross, is the Church of the Epiphany and a village store. There are a number of seventeenth and eighteenth century houses displaying elaborate lintel stones engraved with initials and dates spread throughout the village. On the approach to Austwick from the A65, just over the bridge, lies Austwick's other public house - The Traddock.
